Sustainability

Folpetto is proud to support a sustainable living and creative ideas to regenerate waste into high performing materials by using a sustainable techno yarn for our swimsuits.

Plastics production has increased twentyfold since 1964, reaching 311m tonnes in 2014, and it’s is expected to double again in the next 20 years and almost quadruple by 2050. Despite the growing demand, just 5% of plastics are recycled effectively, while 40% end up in landfill and a third in fragile ecosystems such as the world’s oceans.

Decades of plastic production have already caused environmental problems. Every year at least 8m tonnes of plastics leak into the ocean – which is equivalent to dumping the contents of one garbage truck into the ocean every minute. If no action is taken, this is expected to increase to two per minute by 2030 and four per minute by 2050.

In a business-as-usual scenario, the ocean is expected to contain one tonne of plastic for every three tonnes of fish by 2025, and by 2050, more plastics than fish [by weight].

By using Econyl®, a 100% regenerated polyamide fiber from post consumer materials like abandoned fishnets and other plastic waste collected from the sea, we aim to reduce the use of new fibres from non renewable origins and contribute to preserve Earth natural resources.

The Econyl® Regeneration System is the world's most efficient industrial system for the production of Nylon 6 from 100% regenerated waste materials otherwise destined to landfills; this yarn can be regenerated over and over for an infinite number of times without any loss in quality therefore promoting a circular economy.

Our swimwear are designed and made with outstanding quality and care with the intention of having a longer lifespan than the average fast fashion garments, therefore reducing the need for excess production.

This means less carbon dioxide, less waste, reduced energy and water consumption.

We strive everyday to be as green as we possibly can and we are committed to using renewable raw materials in all our packaging, from 100% recycled paper swingtags to PE Green bags made from sugar cane.

Our aim is to limit our impact on the environment, without compromising on quality and comfort for your little rays of sunshine ☀️
